&lt;p&gt;As this issue closes out 2023, it seems fitting to give readers a break by providing an almost complete view of the mystery bird instead of an anal or decapitated perspective, or a view that conceals most of the more typical field marks. This issue’s mystery bird is a species that most readers will likely recognize as a shorebird of some sort. Because it is a shorebird, the first question that should come to mind is whether it is a sandpiper (Family &lt;em&gt;Scolopacidae&lt;/em&gt;) or a plover (Family &lt;em&gt;Charadriidae&lt;/em&gt;)?&lt;/p&gt;
