Field Note: An Owl Surprise at Salisbury Beach State Reservation

Sandy Selesky

Barn Owl. All photographs by the author.

I visited the Massachusetts coast on Sunday, November 5, 2023, starting at Salisbury Beach State Reservation to look for the reported Golden-crowned Kinglets, then planned after a couple of hours to drive to Parker River National Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island to check out all the sandpipers, ducks, and seabirds there. I try to go to both areas at least once a week from my home in Westford. I have been a birder and bird and wildlife photographer for more than 35 years and these two locations are favorites.
