In the At a Glance article in the December 2025 issue—which revealed the identity of the bird in the October 2025 issue— I referred to the difficulties associated with identifying bird photographs in which a species is looking directly at the camera. As noted in that article, because the eyes of most birds are not as frontally located as those of humans—or of certain birds such as owls—when a species is viewed head-on, identification from a photograph can be challenging. This issue’s mystery photograph is a perfect example.
