May was wet, with measurable precipitation occurring on 21 days. Boston recorded 7.25 inches during the month versus the historical average of 3.25 inches. The month was the fifth wettest May since records have been kept, with May 1954 topping the list at 13.38 inches. Rain was recorded every Saturday from April 26 through July 14. In Boston, the high temperature for the month was 84 degrees on May 3 and the low was an unusually chilly 44 degrees on May 22, with the high for that date reaching only 48 degrees.
